Emporium is an original pastel painting from my recent series of abstracts. I created the composition by taking a viewfinder, (a small square cut out of black paper), over a large photo of a hawthorn tree. I let my eyes scan the possibilites of line, form, value, and the relationships among them. I'll admit that when I first attempted abstracts, less than a year ago, it did not go well. Then I remembered why I was stepping into abstracts and things began to improve. See 'Jazz' for my original intention.
