Birdbath is a soft pastel painting with a watercolor underpainting. The cleomes and dianthus are in bloom and the soil is prepared for the addition of annual flowers.  It is a joy to watch birds at a birdbath.  They are delicate drinkers but very athletic bathers.  Lots of splashing going on! One day I watched a robin just sit in the birdbath for about fifteen minutes. He or she was relaxing in the water without a care in the world. Adorable!

I loved the way the birdbath and old wood fence looked in watercolor so to those elements I added no pastel. I love how the watercolor and pastel communicate. It's a very exciting relationship of mediums. More to explore there.
